World Heritage Sites Attract over 150,000 Visitors During Holiday Weekend

SIEM REAP: Cambodia’s World Heritage Sites attracted thousands of visitors from at home and abroad over the holiday weekend.

 During the three days of the Pchum Ben festival, Siem Reap province received more than 130,000 national and international visitors.

According to the report of the Siem Reap Department of Tourism, Siem Reap welcomed 132,051 visitors from October 13-15. Of these, 81,542 went on family trips to Angkor Wat, while 43,907 people stayed at community and tourist resorts. Foreign tourists accounted for 6,602 people.

 The provincial tourism department thanked the national and regional government leaders for developing Siem Reap’s infrastructure and beautifying the city which has attracted visitors from all over to a clean environment centered around a historic river.

Two other World Heritage Sites sit north of Siem Reap in Preah Vihear, which attracted over 20,000 visitors, a 50% increase from last year.

Preah Vihear Province is home to the Preah Vihear Temple, located in the Dangrek Mountains along the Thai border. The nearby Koh Ker Temple has skyrocketed in popularity since its inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site last month. In addition to the two more famous temples, the province is scattered with smaller ancient remains that attract more adventurous travelers.
